PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao slammed the State Budget, calling it hollow and misleading. “This is not a ‘Ghatmut’ (strong) budget, but a ‘Jhutmut’ (false) budget filled with empty promises,” he said.
Alemao highlighted the state’s mounting debt and questioned the government’s revenue sources. “Seventy percent of revenue is already tied up in salaries, pensions, social welfare, and interest payments. What is left is peanuts,” he said.
He criticized the absence of a clear plan for job creation. “The Chief Minister is silent on employment targets. Our youth are struggling for work while this government seems preoccupied with looting,” Alemao charged.
Describing the budget as an election-year gimmick, he added, “The Chief Minister repeated ‘Ghatmut’ hundreds of times, but this budget is nothing more than ‘Jhutmut.’ These promises will be exposed.”
Alemao also raised concerns about the government’s redevelopment plans for old buildings. “I hope this is not a backdoor way to transfer public property into private hands under the guise of PPP,” he said.
